Focuses on defining and understanding the five most common civil actions brought against investigators.  Beginning with an overview of the different types of criminal and civil law, it then focuses on intentional torts such as false imprisonment, defamation, and malicious prosecution.

 

 

This session will give attendees a basic grounding in finance and allow them to view financial statements from a management perspective.  It begins with an introduction into accounting that explores the purposes of accounting, the sources for its rules and organization, and the limits of accounting. Next, we differentiate between cash- and accrual-based methods of accounting.  We then examine the three basic types of financial statements - balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement - and how they are interpreted.

 

 

Focuses on learning how to evaluate capital budgeting expenditures from a financial return on investment perspective.  It includes an overview of budgeting, how to construct a cash flow statement, and use of net present value (NPV), internal rate of return (IRR), and payback period. It also discusses how the same concepts can be applied to expense budgeting such as security guards, detectives, payroll, etc.

 

 

Focuses on interpersonal communication skills necessary to promote open dialogue, build partnerships, and reach "win-win" agreements.  The primary skill which will be developed is centered around listening skills with materials ranging from discussions of the evaluative reflex to active listening to Covey's empathic listening model.

 

 

Covers a wider range of skills necessary for success in dealing with other people.  Primary topics for this include developing and maintaining effective relationships, constructive confrontation and negotiation tips.

 

 

This session can be customized from as little as four hours to two full days.  Covers everything from developing materials, construction of speech, audio-visuals, vocal quality, gestures, and presentation. This session can also be focused on training the trainer with emphasis on speaking as trainer or facilitator.

 

 

This session focuses on skills necessary to manage yourself and your career.  Key topics include assessing yourself, setting goals and establishing priorities, time management, and maintaining a positive attitude.

 

 

This session will cover the basics of managing people.  Starting with a brief refresher on management theory by Taylor, McGregor, Maslow, et al and then moving into to the core responsibilities of the manager such as motivating, coaching, training, organizing, delegating, and evaluating.
